The Rene Herbst Cord Chair, also known as the Sandows Chair, is just one example of the pioneering use of industrial material for which Rene Herbst became known. For this chair, Herbst used elastic cords (we know them now as “bungee cords”) that, at that time, were used to wrap parcels. His chair was first shown to the public at the Paris Salon d’Automne des Artistes Decorators in 1929. Rene Herbst founded the company Etablissements Rene Herbst to produce and sell his designs.
